During ‘About Women and Control’ Conference
3 nominees for the 2010 Outstanding Woman Award

Willemstad – Jurors are debating at this moment on who of the three nominees will be the winner of the 5th Annual Outstanding Woman Award, during the 7th Annual Women Conference  in Curaçao ‘About Women and Control’.
The first person to receive the 'Outstanding Woman Award' in 2006 was Nilda Juliana-Jansen, founder of the cleaning company 'Servisio Na Bo Òrdu' who created work opportunity for hundreds of women. In 2007 it was teacher Zelma Maduro who during 50 years of working in education, as a teacher in kindergarten, prepared young people for their future. In 2008 the recognition went to Mila Palm who as a counselor coached young women and single mothers to continue to work on their future through education.
And in 2009 it was Lucina da Costa Gomes Mattheeuws who was recognized for the fact that 40 years ago she as a minister eliminated the law that prohibited married women to act and sign anything legally without the consent of their husband.

The three nominees for this year are from Curaçao:
1. Haidita Freitas França-Ayoubi CEO of Kambes N.V. /Colon Shopping Center. Mrs. Freitas has a project where she has work opportunity for deaf/mute women and for women in prison.
2. Eugenia Thelma Brunings who worked over 40 years as a midwife in Curaçao. Remarkable in her work was that when she had to help a poor woman she did not charge her but when she met a woman with better economical means she would charge her double.
3. Norma Wild who over 40 years worked as a Registered Nurse in Curaçao at the St. Elisabeth Hospital, The Sanatorium and the house for elderly people Habaai. During her career she was known for the attention she had for those in medical need.
The rules to nominate a woman is that she must be older than 60 years old or was 60 when she passed away; the work she did must have meant something for other women and she must be from the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba or from the Caribbean.
The jury consisting of Orphaline Saleh from Bonaire, Joyce van Genderen-Naar LLC in Belgium and dr. Peggy Dolet in Washington will present the winner on Friday March 5, 2010 during the opening night of the 7th annual women conference 'About Women and Control' in the Renaissance Hotel in Curaçao.

Speakers at the 7th annual woman conference in Curaçao this year will be gynecologist Dr. Sergio Leon, Evelyn Montalvo, Nohraya Godfried and psychiatrist Dr. Karin Hermans.
‘About Women and Control’ will end with the annual celebration of women that is this year The Vagina Monologues.
