Nominee
2010 Outstanding Woman Award

Name: Haidita Freitas França-Ayoubi
Birth date: August 18, 1949 (60)

CEO Kambes N.V. /Colon Shopping Center a clothing manufacturing company. Kambes has more than 45 years of existence.

Achievement
Haidita, as a businesswoman has always contributed to the development and employment opportunity for underprivileged women who are on welfare, women who are deaf/mute and women in prison.
The women are/were employed by her in the clothing manufactory where they sew uniforms for different organizations and government offices and other clothing. This is giving them an opportunity to contribute to the economy of the island of Curaçao.

These three projects are ongoing.

1. The main objective of the project with the women in prison was to give the women who came in contact with the judicial system for one reason or the other, an opportunity to build a new and self-sufficient life.
Through this project, the women have the opportunity to acquire a skill set for a career path while sitting out their punishment. The money they earn by working at Kambes allows them a fresh and needed independent economic start. The project helps to build their self-esteem and prepare them in a much-needed way to acquire a job when they leave prison (some do get a full time job if they want too).
Kambes has produced through this project many dedicated and loyal workers who up to this date are effectively contributing to our government’s tax income.

2. Another project that Kambes launched and that is very satisfying for all involved is the project of the deaf/mute women. This project is realized in close cooperation with the local school for deaf/mute children and the Santa Martha project for disabled people. It is however very difficult for this particular group of people to find any job and unfortunately our community are also not sensitive about the need of these special people. Those participating are also doing a good job as fulltime employees of Kambes.

3. The project with the women on welfare aims to assist and support the women who receive welfare and who are willing to work and who cannot find a job to take care of their family’s needs.
Via Kambes, they get a chance to work and to get off welfare.
